Welcome to the first BONUS EPISODE of our Winter Program where we will take a closer look at the conversion of Saul. In the book of Acts, Luke recounts the story three times, and repetition means something in the Bible, so what is Luke trying to get at? Where is he trying to lead us? Why is THIS conversion so important Luke thought it was necessary to tell the story three different times?
We'll break it all down in this episode. I hope you enjoy it, and please, share it with a friend.

It's another one week Bible study this week as we look at the letter from Jude.
Jude writes to an unspecified church, but he's specific in the audience he's targeting: those who are called, beloved and kept by God the Father for Christ Jesus.
He writes them to plead with them to contend for the true faith that has been handed down once for all to the saints. His explanation of why this is necessary? Unknown to the believers, false teachers have crept in and begun to distort the gospel, to pervert the grace of God into something carnal, and they are trying to lead believers astray.
Jude cuts a path through the Old Testament to link God's past judgement to a coming judgement for these ungodly false teachers.
He finally ends his letter by telling his audience HOW they are to contend for this most holy faith.
Every lesson Jude teaches is applicable to us today. We must learn to be discerning and recognize the false teachers that surround us, and we must learn to contend for the true faith that was handed down once for all to the saints.

Oh, I'm not sure how I feel about posting this last episode of our Bonus Series. Of course, I'm happy to have done this series, I thouroughly enjoyed it, and I believe you all did as well, but it's a little sad that it has to come to an end.
In our final episode, my senior pastor Joshua York takes a gander about why more pastors don't utilize the tool of expository preaching.
First, Joshua defines expository preaching, then he contrasts it with topical preaching. He then gives his best educated guess as to why more pastors don't practice this method of preaching, and he wraps up the discussion with the benefits of expository preaching, and why it nurtures a healthy church.
Then if you hang around to the very end (and I hope you do), I have a little fun and do a "lightening round" of fun questions for Joshua. Do you know what Joshua's favorite junk food is? Did you know his taste in music is quite diverse? Can you guess what he has on his play list for long road trips back to Texas? Is there a book of the Bible he finds especially challenging? And find out what two books Joshua would really love to preach through, and hear what's holding him back from tackling them on Sunday mornings.
Enjoy this final episode of our bonus series. If you would like to submit a question for a future Ask The Pastor series, you can reach out to me on Facebook or Instagram:

We are getting ready for our second week of Winter Programming with a one week study on the Letter of Jude.
Jude is ONE CHAPTER, 25 VERSES, and about a 4 minute read.
Jude encourages his readers to "contend for the faith," and spend a good deal of his letter explaining why this is necessary. It 's a warning we should pay attention to and heed even today.
This episode provides some things to ask yourself, look for, and think about as you read.

It's one and done this week in our Bible Study for Women. We read the book of Philemon, the short little letter that packs a walloping punch!
Paul is appealing to his friend Philemon on behalf of Paul's son in the faith, Onesimus. Paul crafts a letter that is personal, challenging, and optimistic, giving Philemon the choice to do the right thing and reconcile with Onesimus, instead of commanding him with legit apostolic authority. Paul is confident that Philemon's character will hold up and that Christ's transformative love will reach Philemon even in this delicate situation.

Oh my, what a great question we have today for our Bonus Series, Ask the Pastor, It's a question I'd be willing to bet you've asked before, or you've been asked before: Will Christians go through the tribulation? Joshua York explains his view on this question, and gives grace to Christians who believe differently.
He talks about two primary views on "tribulation," one from the angle of dispensationalism (which is the type of church I grew up in), which interprets the apocalyptic literature of the Bible literally. This view gained traction back in the early 1900s with the publishing of the Scofield Study Bible (my mom had this Bible) and enjoyed immense popularity with the Left Behind series in the late 1990s and early 2000s.  The other angle, covenant theology, interprets apocalyptic literature much more symbolically. Joshua fleshes out these two arguments and explains why he believes one is more scripturally accurate.
Here is the sermon he references in the episode, "The Hope of His Coming":   https://youtu.be/rgo5vOafDIY

Y'all I am super excited for this week. We are moving into our winter program and for the next two weeks we will look at the two books of the New Testament which stand alone with just ONE CHAPTER!!
This week is the book of Philemon. This is a deeply personal letter from the apostle Paul to his friend, with an important request. Paul follows an ancient Greek and Roman philosophy formula designed in three steps for maximum acquiescence:
1) Build rapport with your audience
2) Pursuade them that your request is legitimate
3) Target the emotions
As you read this week, consider how Paul implements each of these steps while forming his appeal to Philemon.
Join me next week for the full discussion of this beautiful letter.

Today is an exciting day (I say with a tear in my eye) as we finish the Book of Acts in our Women's Bible Study,
It's a tale of swashbuckling adventure as Luke writes an EPIC narrative that rivals any shipwreck story we can think of. Luke also encourages us to think about another stormy adventure we find in the Old Testament, and see the God who is in complete control over both stories, as he delivers his servants to their destinations.
