Prepisode for Mark 14-16: To witness the crucifixion

It's heavy reading this week as we witness the cruel (and yet blessed) crucifixion of our Lord. As this is Thanksgiving week, I was thinking about how we call the Friday after Thanksgiving "Black Friday." Sometimes I think about what we call "Good Friday" and wonder if we shouldn't switch the adjectives for those two days. For followers of Jesus on that unbelievable day, it sure must have seemed like a Black Friday. But hold on.....Sunday is coming!

Mark 11-13: Preparing our hearts for Advent

We are looking at Passion Week in the gospel of Mark this week, the last week of Jesus' life before his crucifixion. I was thinking as I was preparing and getting to record this episode about the timing of it in the calendar year. It's Thanksgiving week here in real time, and at first I was thinking this is kinda a strange time to be studying Passion Week as we are getting ready for Advent...but then I thought, 'no, you know, it's actually a great time to study this passage.' What better way to prepare our hearts for Advent than to think about why Jesus actually came. So we dive into Mark 11-13 in this episode and begin the real journey to the cross. I hope this blesses you, and may it help prepare our hearts for the Advent season.

Prepisode for Mark 11-13: Stepping into Passion Week

We're slowing down the narrative this week as Jesus enters Jerusalem for his final week before his crucifixion. He knows what awaits him at the end of the week, and he's only got a little bit of time left to prepare his disciples for what is coming. Join us as we read through the first few days of Passion Week. I give you a couple of fun activities to do this week to help you read carefully and critically and sharpen your Bible skills.

Mark chapters 7-10: ”Who do you say that I am?”

If I were giving these chapters a theme this week, I think it would be confusion. There is so much confusion about who Jesus is in these chapters, and we get to the turning point of Mark's gospel when Jesus comes right out and asks his disciples "Who do you say that I am?" It's a question that we all have to answer, and it's the most important question we will ever have to answer.
This week, we see another confrontation with the scribes and  Pharisees, we meet a very persistant Syro-phoenician woman, Jesus goes back to the Decapolis (I told you he wasn't finished there!!), we see the heavenly veil pulled back to give us a peek of Jesus' glory on the Mount of Transfiguration, and we meet a man called Blind Bartimaeus. And sprinkled in between all of these stories, Jesus finally reveals why he has come, giving us more and more detail each time he tells his disciples. Welcome to SUPER CHALLENGE WEEK!!

Mark chapters 4,5, & 6: Kingdom Seeds

We tackle three chapters in the gospel of Mark this week, and we look at a very familiar parable of Jesus: the parable of the sower; and a couple of very familiar miracles of Jesus: calming the storm, casting out a demon named Legion, feeding the 5,000. We're jam packed this week as we continue to seek to walk worthy.  We learn the importance of not giving up even when we don't understand perfectly. I'm so thankful for the patience of the Lord.

Prepisode - Mark 4-5-6 - It’s CHALLENGE week!!!

Hello and welcome to challenge week. This week, I'm throwing down the gauntlet and challenging you to read 3 chapters in the book of Mark!  Woo Hoo!  I know you can do it.
I have broken down the chapters for you in this episode to keep you within your 20 minutes per day, so don't be afraid to dive right in.
We will look at the parable of the sower, we're gonna travel to the Decapolis, we will witness several healings, we're going to learn what happened to John the Baptist, and we're got a ringside seat to see what Jesus can do with 5 dinner rolls and two fish.

Mark chapters 2-3, Five challenges Jesus overcomes in his early ministry

We are looking at Mark chapters 2-3 this week as Jesus settles into his Galilean Ministry. Mark presents us with a series of exchanges Jesus has as he begins building his kingdom. He is challenged 5 times in these two chapters by a group of scribes and Pharisees: His authority is challenged, his morality is called into question, his spiritual discipline of his disciples was tssk'd, his devotion to Sabbath is questioned, and he is accused of being in allegiance with the devil.
Even his family prove to misunderstand who he is and what he is doing.
