Well we have a very timely episode for all you followers of our regular Bible Study through the Book of Acts. This week, a listener asks about the formula for baptism as it is described in the New Testament: specifically, the difference between baptism position given by King Jesus in the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19 (baptism in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit), and the baptism we see in the Book of Acts after Pentecost (baptism in Jesus name only).
Is there a difference? Why are there two formulas? Is one more correct than the other? Does it matter?
Pastor Joshua York breaks all of these questions down and explains that it mainly comes down to Luke, the author of the Book of Acts, wanting us to distinguish between a THIRD type of baptism mentioned in the New Testament. And now it makes so much more sense!
I hope you enjoy this episode. And if you are following along with our regular weekly Bible Study, this entire episode is "a little extra for no charge." You're welcome!!
This is a special series we are posting for nine weeks, but we have a regular Bible study time each Thursday. We would love for you to join us. Well we're back with Ask the Pastor, and this may be a new topic for some of you. A listener asked "What are some of the red flags of Preterism?"
Have you ever heard of a Preterist? There are two sides to this doctrine: Partial Preterism and Full Preterism.
Joshua York explains the difference between the two sides, and while one is a full on RED FLAG, the other definitely raises a YELLOW FLAG, and both should be approached with extreme caution.
I hope you enjoy this episode.

OK, we are back on track this week in our Bible Study for Busy Women as we take a look at the Apostle Paul's 3rd Missionary Journey. Did you know that Paul's Third Missionary Journey lasts almost 5 years?
The focus this week is on teaching: more precisely, "Teaching Jesus Accurately," It's so important that we get this right!
We are reading Acts Chapters 19-21 this week (there is a teeny tiny bit of the end of Acts Chapter 18). And your reading time is around 15 minutes.
Will you join us on our journey, as we join Paul on his?

So I have something a little different for you this week in our Acts Bible Study - this episode is not our usual format. I'll explain it all to you right up front as you listen, and I hope you will understand.
In trying to be thrifty with my words, we really only talk about two things this week from Acts chapters 16-18:
1) Paul's missionary team
2) The converts from Paul's Second Missionary Journey
There's Lydia of Thyatira, the Philippian Jailer, the Bereans, and Aquilla and Priscilla.
We will look at these believers through the hand of the Providence of God. It wasn't luck that all of these people were in the right place at the right time. It was Divine Providence that put Lydia and Paul at the riverside that Sabbath Day. It was God working through difficult circumstances that put the Philippian Jailer on duty that night. It was the wisdom of the Lord that made Paul and Silas take a back road to Berea. And it was the providential hand of God which ultimately brought Aquilla and Priscilla to Corinth at precisely the right time to meet the Apostle Paul.
What's the root of your gospel story? You didn't hear the gospel by chance. You heard it by providence.

What an incredible topic to continue our Ask the Pastor Series. We are talking about Christians and Politics today. It's a hot button, it's a can of worms, it's polarizing...and it's important!
Our listener asks "How do you see the roll of Christians in politics today?" This could have gone sideways in a million directions, but Joshua is so steady, and he speaks wisdom and truth in an easy to understand discussion on how we are citizens of two kingdoms, and where our primary allegiance is, and where our secondary allegiance is; but secondary allegiance IS allegiance, and we are to submit to our God-ordained governing authorities as long as they don't ask us to compromise our ultimate allegiance.
We also discuss the upcoming election and how we don't have the best candidates...so what are we to do?
And finally, as Christians, should we run for office? Joshua says yes, and gives his reason why he thinks this is a good endeavor.

We got some new music just for this series!!

Pack your bags again and get ready to travel on Paul's Second Missionary Journey. In Acts chapter 16, he revisits Lystra and Derbe where he picks up a young disciple named Timothy, we read about the interaction with Paul and Lydia, and the story of the Philippian jailor.  In Acts chapter 17, we find Paul and Silas in Thessalonica and Paul in Athens.  And in Acts chapter 18, we meet up with Paul in Corinth.
We get our first glimpse of Luke joining the journey (although he's so modest, he barely mentions it!).
We meet Priscilla and Aquilla. We meet Apollos.
It's a week jammed packed week for our Acts Bible Study...but it's a week where you'll find so many familiar people and places, it'll feel like a warm hug.

The message of the gospel is at stake this week in our Acts Bible Study when some representatives from the Pharisees make their way to the church in Antioch and stir up a hornet's nest when they tell the Gentile believers they aren't really saved because they haven't been circumcised. Is Jesus enough or not?
Paul and Barnabas make their way to Jerusalem to meet with the other apostles and elders to discuss and debate the message of the gospel, and The Jerusalem Council was established. Do you know what the outcome is? Listen to this episode to see how it all shakes out. (I'll bet you already have an idea...but go ahead and listen anyhow!!)

After being treated harshly by her mistress, Sarai, a pregnant Hagar runs away to escape her difficult situation. But while she's on the run, the Angel of the LORD seeks Hagar out and instructs her to return to her mistress. Does God REALLY send Hagar back to an abusive situation and tell her she must endure?
It's a delicate question, and maybe you've wrestled with it before. In the first episode of our ASK THE PASTOR BONUS SERIES, my senior teaching pastor, Joshua York, dives in and helps us with the context of the passage so we can understand the original author's intent (prescriptive vs descriptive); but he also speaks to the heart of the question and offers pastoral guidance in the event you find yourself in an abusive relationship.
This is a little bit of a different kind of episode than what you're used to hearing here at She Walks Worthy, but I hope you will tune in and be encouraged by what you hear in this series.  We've got eight more Bonus Episodes to release in the coming weeks.

This going to be a great week in our Acts Bible Study as we spend the entire week in Acts 15, dissecting the Jerusalem Council. (Oh, look y'all, I found another "D" word!!
To help cultivate a thought-provoking experience, I have five "D" words for you to think about as you read:
DEBATE / DEFENSE / DECISION / DISAGREEMENT / DIVERSITY
Go ahead and listen to the episode to see how to apply these words!
Also, since we've only got one chapter and it's a short 6 minute read, look into these passages that may help bring clarity into what the apostles and elders in Jerusalem are wrestling with:
Matthew 11:28-30
Matthew 23:1-4
Galatians 5:1-6
It's not too late to invite a friend to join us in our Women's Bible Study.  This actually a great week since it's only one chapter.  It fits right into our mission to help you understand how to read the Bible well. It's a great tool not only for Beginner's Bible Study, but also for Busy Mom's Bible Study, Teen Bible Study, or Working Woman's Bible Study. All are welcome!

Our Women's Bible Study continues this week in the book of Acts as we look at Acts chapters 12-14.
We learn of the Apostle James' execution by the hand of Herod Agrippa. The Apostle Peter is imprisoned and most likely faces the same fate, but is rescued by an Angel of the Lord.
Herod Agrippa meets his fate and is struck down by another visitation from an Angel of the Lord; he wastes away and is gruesomely eaten by worms.
Back in Antioch, Paul and Barnabas are commissioned for a special work from the Holy Spirit.
Working their way through Cypress and up through Galatia, Paul begins to understand the truth behind "I will show him how much he must suffer for my name," from Acts 9:12 when he is stoned and left for dead in Lystra.
Acts Chapters 13-14 cover a time span of roughly 1 1/2 years. The Lord uses this trip to prepare him for longer upcoming trips where he will face more persecution.
We are working our way through the Book of Acts in this Bible Study for women. But not just for women, it's great for Beginners Bible Study; it's a great Busy Mom Bible Study; it's a wonderful Teen Bible Study. God's Word is amazing, and we are on a journey to discover all of it's treasures that He will reveal to us.
