Have you ever used the expression "I can read the writing on the wall." ? Do you ever stop to think that expression comes straight out of the Bible? We read the story behind the expression this week as Babylon continues to revel in idolatry several generations after King Nebuchadnezzar's passing.
This episode gives you things to think about as you read Daniel chapter 5.

Prepping for Daniel chapter 5| Belshazzar | Belshazzar's Feast | The writing on the wall |

Thursday Jan 30, 2025

How well do you know the story of Daniel chapter 4? I confess, I had a surprise at the end.
King Nebuchadnezzar has had another dream and asks Daniel to interpret it for him. For good reason, Daniel is hesitant. If Nebuchadnezzar won't humble himself and seek the righteousness of God, the dream is a warning of weighty judgement.
Yes, Nebuchadnezzar was an instrument in God's hand to bring judgement against Judah, but Nebuchadnezzar was also responsible before God for his actions. It's the great paradox that our limited human minds wrestle with.
Learn about the dream and the interpretation, and see the drama play out in your mind's eye as you listen to this episode.

As we get deeper and deeper into the Book of Daniel in our weekly Bible study, we get to know King Nebuchadnezzar in a more personal way: we know he can be brutal, we know his character, we know he loves his power and authority. We also know he has some insecurities. For all of his vanity, it seems he knows down deep there is something he is supposed to know, but he hasn't been able to grasp it yet.
He has another lesson to learn this week in Daniel chapter 4. Unlike his last dream in chapter 2, a prophecy that will take place in "the latter days," we get to see the full impact of this dream.
Nebuchadnezzar gets to tell his own story this week, and he doesn't leave out the gritty parts. This episode will give you some things to think about as you read.

Oh this is a big chapter for us this week as we look with adult eyes at what, for most of us, is one of the most beloved Bible stories from our childhood.
In response to Daniel's interpretation of his dream in chapter 2, Nebuchadnezzar sets in motion his plan to keep his empire from falling. All he has to do is intimidate all the leaders of the Babylonian provinces to prostrate themselves in worship of a statue that "resembles" the statue from his dream...but with Nebbie's own twist. Intimidated people will be far less likely to rebel and try to overthrow his kingdom.
He doesn't count on any resistance. And that's where our main characters come in. They refuse to bow down to an idol, and even threat of death won't deter them. Listen to the dramatic storyline unfold that leads to their statement of faith, "But if not...."

Friday Jan 17, 2025

This week we come to one of the most familiar and beloved stories of our childhood if you grew up in church. The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednigo slips over us like a comfortable old coat worn to Sunday School throughout our youth.
In this Prepisode, you'll get some questions to think about and chew on as you read this week. I hope the questions will help you see beyond the familiarity and give you a peek through fresh eyes.

How often do you dream? Can you see patterns in your dreams? Have you ever had recurring dreams? When I was a kid, I used to have a recurring dream that a family of vampires lived in our shower. I was well into my 20s before I could use a bathroom without opening the shower door or pulling back the curtain to make sure I was alone. (That's a little extra for no charge!!)
In the ancient world, dreams were important, especially the dreams of a king. They often gave a ruler information about the direction of their kingdom. But if the dream was unclear, or the king was uncertain about what a dream meant, he may be unprepared for the event that was coming.
That's where king Nebuchadnezzar finds himself this week. He has dreamed dreams that he doesn't understand. And let's face it, what does a giant statue made of gold, silver, bronze, iron and clay mean?
Remember last week where God gave Daniel special blessings in the area of understanding dreams and interpreting them? Hmmmm. Wonder how that plays out this week in Daniel Chapter 2? Listen to find out!

Alrighty, this week in our Women's Bible Study we are looking at Daniel chapter 2. This is where Nebuchadnezzar has his first dream, and (SPOILER ALERT) it's about a big statue.
Daniel gets a chance to stand before the king and show how mighty his God is! This episode gets you ready to read all about it!

Book of Daniel | Nebuchadnezzar's statue dream | Daniel chapter 2

Thursday Jan 09, 2025

The first wave of captives tread their soles on Babylonian soil this week in Daniel chapter 1, and they are made aware of what this new life will bring in the first couple of years.
First, they'll be given the best education. They'll eat the very same food the king eats. They'll be called by new names. But Daniel does some negotiating and brokers what the captain of the eunuchs believes is a bad deal....but he has a soft heart toward Daniel (wonder how that happened??) so he goes along with it for 10 days. Did you read to find out how it turns out?
Daniel and his three Jewish friends are given new names to remind them where their new loyalties should lie, but they already have really, REALLY good names, and we talk about them. And we see in the end that the new names aren't as potent as they're portrayed.
And finally, we see a parallel between Daniel and someone we've already studied. Do you know before you listen?
This is a great introductory episode setting us up for things to come. I can't hardly wait!

Thursday Jan 02, 2025

Welcome to a brand new year (Hello 2025!!) and a brand new season (Hello Season 3!!) here at She Walks Worthy.
We are hitting the ground running with a brand new study for the next three months: the book of Daniel.
I get you ready to open up chapter 1 this week to the Babylonian Narrative so you are fully aware of the context and setting - members of the royal family of Judah taken captive to Babylon under the regime of King Nebuchadnezzar.
But before we do even that, I remind you of the tools you already have in your tool belt to help you step into swirling waters of apocalyptic literature. It's not meant to be scary!!
And as usual, I give you some things to think about as you read this week. I hope you are excited to begin this journey with me. Share with a friend, and meet me right back here next week for the full discussion.
