We finish out this first book of the Psalms in our Women's Bible Study this week and we see over and over the faithfulness of the LORD. David attempts to put into words the scope of God's character; he tries to help us understand using the language we've been given...but even the grand scale that David uses, the heavens, clouds, mountains, the great deep, even these descriptions will pale when on that final day we experience the fullness of being in his presence.

This is it for our study on the first book of Psalms. We wrap it up this week. Remember everything we've talked about. Read repetitively, look for repeated words and phrases, remember you're reading Biblical Poetry which is full of imagery, metaphor, and simile.

We are winding down our study of the first book of Psalms in our Women's Bible Study. This is our next to last week in this study. This was a great week!
We begin with Ps 31, a lament of David, where we learn that our God is a Mountain Fortress. Can you think of all the advantages of a mountain fortress? Now think of how much better a fortress the LORD is since he is a fortress made without human hands!!
Psalm 32 is a penintential Psalm. David is confessing is sin and asking the LORD to surround him with his covenental love.
Psalm 33 is a praise Psalm, and it is a mini study of the character and attributes of God.  I counted 14 attributes listed in this Psalm. How many did you count?
Psalm 34 is a song of Thanksgiving written by David in a time that could have easily resulted in a Psalm of Lament.
Finally, Psalm 35 is a Penitential Psalm, one of only 7 in the entire Psalter. Is David justified in praying judgement against his enemies? Listen to find out why this is proper that David pray this prayer.
Below is my email if you would like to receive a bookmark with Psalm 16:11. Just shoot me an email and introduce yourself, tell me how long you've been listening, and tell me what book of the Bible you'd like for us to read in the future. Don't forget to include your name and address so I'll know where to send the bookmark! I can't wait to hear from you!

We're kicking it back Old School style this week in our Women's Bible Study and practicing some good old-fashinoned outlines to help us with comprehension. Don't worry, we're not getting too fancy or complicated, you don't even have to use Roman Numerals, unless you feel like that helps you me more outliney.
I have really enjoyed this week's reading as I start to prepare.  Reading repetitively has not been a problem for me this week. I just can't get enough of these 5 Psalms. I hope they bless your heart as much as they are mine.

We begin today's Women's Bible Study with a plea for vindication and a plea of innocense:
Judge: David how do you plea?
David: Not guilty!!
Wouldn't you like to have been at that trial?
We talk about the fruit of "seeking," the Pit and Sheol (not places you want to be!!), we learn a song of pure praise, and we see how even though David never got to see the temple with his physical eyes, he still had a part to play in the dedication of the House of the LORD.
Over and over this week, we have seen that the LORD is who he says he is. We can trust him, even in the storm.

Of all the Psalms we've studied so far, this group seemed the most unfamiliar to me. I really had to slow down and practice what I've been preaching to you all for the past 5 weeks: read slowly and repetitively, identify the type of Psalm, and remember we are reading poetry! Those three tips were super helpful for me this week, so I want to remind you all again as well...because they'll probably be super helpful to you, too.
There are two teasers in this prepisode to make you want to come back. I hope you'll join me next week for the full episode!

If you did the reading this week, how many times did you count the word HESED (or loving-kindness, faithfulness)? I counted 5 times in three chapters! Did you highlight all of them?
We have a couple of familiar Psalms this week, and a couple that maybe are not as familiar, but all are a treasure trove for those who seek.
What treasures can you discover in this week's Women's Bible Study?

Get ready to read some familiar passages this week as we cover one of the most beloved Psalms, Psalm 23, and one of the most prophetic Psalms about the crucifixion of Christ, Psalm 22.
We'll make some really neat connections along the way as well, but you'll have to read carefully. This is part of the process and part of the delight of learning to read scripture.

Oh as much as I'm loving this study, this may be my favorite week of the whole series, but maybe I shouldn't type too soon, we've still got half of the study to go. Maybe I should wait to see what all is revealed.
This week in our Women's Bible Study we find ourselves on the Path of Life, and it is revealed to us how to have fullness of joy in one of my favorite Psalms.
We get to look into one of the most beautiful prayers of David, one that is easily adaptable for us to pray regularly.
We tackle the longest Psalm we've read so far, but find it wasn't that difficult to follow and understand.
One of my other favorite Psalms is a celebration of the Law. Have you ever realized just how beautiful the Law of the Lord actually is?
And our final Psalm for the week had a little different flavor.  It wasn't David singing the words, it was the congregation singing to the Lord on David's behalf, on behalf of their king. They weren't exactly singing the British National Anthem, but if you are familiar with the words to "God Save the King" you will see some strikingly familiar themes.

Hey I thought just for funnsies, we'd play a matching game this week with our Psalm type identification. I'm giving you the types you'll encounter, and you match them with the Psalms:
Royal  -  Thanksgiving  -  Confidence  -  Wisdom  -
Individual Lament  -  Royal  -  Celebration of the Law
And yes, Royal is supposed to be there twice, and yes, there are seven types and only 5 Psalms.  Listen to the Prepisode for an explanation.
I told you two of my all time favorite Psalms were in this reading, and Psalm 16 is one of them. It is known as a "Golden Psalm." What do you think that means?
My other favorite is Psalm 19. It just gets me excited! Take a stroll through it and spend some time meditating on it and see if it gets you excited as well.
There will be lots to discover and uncover this week. I know this reading will be a blessing to you.
Until next week........
